On the bottom of each garage door there are two small black boxes (on on each side of the garage door---electronic eyes), one is constantly lit red, the other constantly lit green. This morning, I noticed that on one of my garage doors, one of the small black boxes (electronic eyes), is blinking red. The other black box (which should be steady green), is not green anymore (has no light at all). Now, when I try to remotely operated that garage door, I hear a faint humming in the overhead motor, but the garage door does not move. What is causing the electronic eye to blink red, and the other not to display a green light any more?? What can I do to fix this problem. The other garage door is working fine. Thank you.|||you have something going on for sure. it sounds like there is something blocking the beam, or someone or something knocked into one of them, and knocked them out of whack.
the thing i am not sure about, is why your door won't go up. i always thought that they would go up with this error, but simply would not go back down. the fact that your door hums, but won't go up with this error, makes me think you might have a bigger problem|||These are safety equipment - designed to stop the door if/when someone runs under the door while it is operating. They bounce a light beam from one to another. If that beam is broken, the door 'assumes' that something is blocking the path and it won't close. In order for the door to operate, the two small 'black boxes' need to be pointing directly at each other so that the light is unobstructed.
EDIT: I believe that the one that is now blinking and the other doesn't have a green light because they aren't aligned (properly sending / receiving that light beam I mentioned above). Try to line them up and see if it doesn't change.
...Kind of like this (minus the tricycle) http://www.garaga.com/pages/img/porte-tr鈥?/a>
